PVC Layflat Hose Overview

PVC Layflat Hose is a lightweight, flexible discharge hose commonly used for water delivery, pump discharge, irrigation and general site dewatering. It stores flat when not pressurised and is available in cut lengths or assemblies. Final selection must match the hose size, working pressure, temperature, fluid, fittings and routing conditions.

Published Hose Construction

  • Tube and cover: PVC, with blue, orange and red colour options listed.
  • Reinforcement: high-tensile polyester braid.
  • Published temperature range: -10°C to +60°C.
  • Published burst-to-working-pressure reference: 3:1, subject to verification for the exact size and product specification.

Typical Water-Transfer Duties

The existing product information refers to irrigation, water pumps, pools and spas, construction, mines and marine work. These are application examples, not automatic approval for every fluid, pressure or site condition.

Discharge Service Is Different from Suction

A layflat discharge hose is designed to flatten when empty. Do not use it for suction or vacuum duty unless the exact product data specifically approves that service.

Pressure and Hose Size Selection

Confirm the normal working pressure, pump shut-off pressure, possible surges, flow requirement and hose length. Allowable pressure may vary by internal diameter and temperature. Use only the current size-specific rating for the exact hose supplied.

The Complete Assembly Determines the Limit

Couplings, clamps, adapters and the hose body must be reviewed together. The assembly is limited by its lowest-rated component, and a published burst ratio is not the permitted working pressure.

Fluid and Temperature Compatibility

Water service should still be reviewed for temperature, treatment chemicals, salinity, oils or contamination. Do not assume compatibility with a chemical from the phrase “light chemicals”; provide the exact product name, concentration and SDS for a separate review.

Potable Water and Food Contact Need Evidence

The original “non-toxic” wording is not treated as certification. Drinking-water, food-contact or hygienic use requires the relevant material evidence and regulatory approval for the exact hose.

Connections and Installation

Confirm hose bore, overall length, fitting type, material, clamp method and mating connection. Route the hose on a clear path, avoid sharp edges, crushing, vehicle traffic and excessive bend, and allow for movement when the hose pressurises.

Inspection and Safe Operation

Before use, inspect for cuts, pinholes, abrasion, delamination, exposed braid, damaged ends or loose couplings. Pressurise gradually and keep personnel clear of unsecured connections. Before handling, stop the pump, isolate the line and release trapped pressure.

Drain, clean and dry the hose as required by the transferred fluid and storage conditions. Roll or store it without sharp folds that could damage the PVC or reinforcement.

Information Required for an Engineering Review

  • Fluid name, additives, concentration and SDS where applicable
  • Working pressure, pump shut-off pressure and surge conditions
  • Required flow, hose bore and overall length
  • Fluid and ambient temperature range
  • Discharge-only or any proposed suction condition
  • Connection type, size, material and clamp method
  • Routing, traffic, abrasion, sunlight and storage conditions
  • Required testing, certification or documentation

Send these details to Advtech Engineering for a configuration review. Confirm the exact PVC layflat hose and complete assembly against actual operating conditions before installation.
